Formative Creative Experiences: WGN in Chicago and the 3:30 movie on ABC were my early film classes. WGN played every old movie Warner Bros. Ever made.

Influential Movies or TV Shows: A lot of James Cagney, SHE\'S GOTTA HAVE IT, DO THE RIGHT THING, CITIZEN KANE, RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK, THE VERDICT, RAGING BULL, Hill St. Blues, Miami Vice.

Comment on Your WBC Experience: I made friends with people who are strong in their opinions and challenge me to expand, which is good for a writer\'s creative growth. I also learned that thinking a story through is as powerful as "feeling" your way through it. New writers will understand what that means when they have to explain a scene they "felt" was right to the fifteenth person who says, "Why is this scene in here?"

What are your favorite WBC tools? The 3-6-3.

How you got your start in the business: While I was in San Francisco, I directed a Public Service Announcement, PA\'d music videos, then AD\'d a short film, but when I made the move to LA I became a messenger, then an assistant.

I\'d like to think I got my true start in the business when I decided in a galaxy far, far away (Indiana) that I wanted to be in the business, and started reading and absorbing everything I could that was related to this business.

Describe the Transition Stages of Your Career: Well, since I\'m the new guy, I feel I\'m still transitioning. However, going from not being paid to being paid has made me aware of one thing: Don\'t think you made it and now you can relax. There\'s always more to learn, and more mountains to climb. This is a constant race and it ends quickly if you don\'t deliver or adapt.

'; bioContent += '

How many hours per week do you devote to your creative work: Whenever I\'m not staring at my beautiful three month old baby, or arguing with my wife about her superiority complex, I try to write. (My wife is the brains, the heart, and soul of the family. I\'m only trusted to take out trash and forget to wash the dishes.)

'; bioContent += '

What biases or preferences do you have regarding the writing process? I never hold on to an idea if it doesn\'t work. I throw it out, forget about it, give it to someone else if it works for them. Then I get quiet, read, or research. Almost always a new idea -- better and more suitable -- for my story, comes to me. Never clutter your mind trying to figure out how to get around an idea that DOESN\'T WORK! If you quickly figure out an idea doesn\'t work, move on. That will put you ahead of a thousand writers.

Do you have any special rituals, places you write, etc.? Loud places. Coffee shops. Noise forces me to block it out and makes me focus on what I\'m doing. When I\'m at home I watch old basketball games over and over. (I\'m the cyber Michael Jordan. In my head I can do moves I really will NEVER be able to do in life…)

Do you have anything you’d like to say about LA or the entertainment world? Don\'t make this business or LA bigger than you. Stay true to your goal with an objective eye. Realize this business is made up of people not STARS.

'; bioContent += '

Also, surround yourself with people who objectively believe in you. People who can cheerlead, but will not blow smoke up your ass. It is on you to be honest with yourself about who those people can be. In other words don\'t befriend a flunkie and call him an honest citizen.

'; bioContent += '

Most of all? -- Have a great time! Make life more than about being hunched over a computer. Don\'t stop being the person who enjoyed going to the movies, or watching the tube, now that you\'re trying to get into the business. Who knows how long this pot o\' gold lasts...
